You know what they say about the best laid plans…such were mine today.
After meeting my team up for breakfast, my plan was to attend a couple of sessions but instead we divided up some customer meetings: some in the morning, some in the afternoon. I won’t say whom, but I will say what was top of mind: how do I manage AI agents in my environment?
If last year was one of concern over what agentic AI could do, this year was filled with concern about the plethora of agents being added to an organization’s environment every day. Without the proper controls, and an organization might have a new agents on every desktop, custom-created by an employee, completely unsupervised or managed (the agent, not the employee).
The trade floor was full of vendors – including my employer – offering tools for managing agents. To seasoned hands, this is very similar to problems of Sharepoint site management, BYOD device management, and every other development in IT where suddenly, everyone could do practically everything, and IT had no way to observe or control any of that.
